Mike and Jen's Wedding Blast 7-17-10

All,

Mike and Jen are friends of my bud DJ Iron Mike, who passed this one on to me. The celebration was held in a small Ukrainian American club in Philadelphia. The place was nice and had a stage for me to setup the gear. One all loaded in and set up I kicked the night off with some mellow classic rock. By the time the guests started arriving I knew the party was going to be fun, as they were very festive and I've worked with this family before. Once dinner was served the guests put on their dancing shoes and partied hard. The party was mostly club, hip hop, oldies with a twist of Latin fare. I had a blast and Mike and Jen are definitely a cool couple, thanks to Diane for booking me "What a great party"!!

7-4-10 LaBate Wedding

All,

so on this July 4th I got to spend time @ the beautiful Stroudsburg Country Inn celebrating with Jason and Willetha LaBate. This couple was cool from the start and based on their personalities @ our client meeting I knew it would be a fun event. They wanted it upbeat but inclusive as we had a diverse crowd with a mishmash of musical tastes. The room was exquisite overlooking a Valley of lush green rolling hills, the perfect backdrop on a beatiful day. I got my system up and running and practiced my lines as I was way early for the event start time of 8 pm. Once the cocktail hr concluded the guests were greeted as they came into the main ballroom. I let the beats roll vibing to some Motown and classic r & b from the likes of : Stevie Wonder, Jame Brown, The Temptations, Jackson 5 etc.. After the guests were seated I managed my way to the bridal suite to get the bridal party in order for the grand entrance. The bridal party was a bit raucous but were attentive to my instructions and lined up without any hitches. I rolled on with the intros nailing them perfectly. I felt in the zone and was so uplifted form my previous wedding debacle the previous week. The night flowed smoothly with some sporadic dance floor action to the more upbeat Motown jams I played. I finally got a chance to really open up the floor, and It came alive to some classic Jackson 5 rolling into some 90's club jams and some old school hip hop rocking the floor before we had to move on with a few more wedding formalities. Overall the evening was a great success with some good dance floor action for the bulk of the night. The night ended on a high note as most of the party goers sang, air guitar ed, and swayed to the last song of the evening Journey's Don't Stop Believin. Congrats to the new Mr and Mrs Labate, and thank you for choosing Your Neighborhood DJ!

6-27-10 Tag Team Wedding w Jagged @ The Merrion

All,

Yesterday's wedding was a challenge and definitely left my partner and I with that survival feeling. I don't know if it's me or what, but it seems like every gig I've done @ The Merrion has been plagued with some sort of setback. We arrived early enough to have a smooth and uneventful load in, once again upstairs in the beautiful Atrium. The space is exquisite to which we added a bit of spice with a few strategically placed LED uplights to accent a few details of the magnificent architecture. After our setup we went over the game plan and got ready for the festivities. The wedding started off rough as i botched the Grand Entrance cueing up the couples entrance song late. the rest of the formalities went well IE: speeches, rose parade (A Merrion Thing), parent dances etc.. The dance floor was pretty dull for most of the evening as the time frame was tight and The Merrion seems to serve endless courses. We were regulated a few times by the FOB to play a dis he had prepared of drab latin fare. To add to the insult we suffered a few more setbacks as Jagged botched one of the Merrion's other special things, and I later called the new Mr and Mrs by the wife's former last name "how embarrassing"!! Anyway despite the push / pull of this evening that could've gone so much better we managed to pull together a dance floor from the remnants of what should have been a stellar event. Overall impressions: we both dropped the ball, but tried our best to salvage the mistakes we made. We could've been given some better direction from our sub par wedding planner. The Merrion seems a bit unfriendly to their vendors, and has a horrible garbage juice load in / out. This will make my worst of list just based off the potential for greatness that fizzled. I guess I'm just dissapointed in my self by not being on my game like usual.

6-19-10 Chrissy's Sweet 16

All,

Oddly enough after playing @ Evergreen clubhouse for the 1st time the previous week, this sweet 16 happened to be here as well. I breezed in with an uneventful and fast load in and set up. I arrived fairly early and let some tunes play 15min prior to our start time. The party was lightly attended with half of the B'day girl's guests pulling a no show. Despite this setback this group of teens were fun and danced to the latest top 40hits with Katy Perry's California Girls making the top song spot of the night. We had a cake cutting with the typical birthday song, but no candle lighting ceremony. This 3 hr gig went way too quickly, and ended with friends and family filling the floor to sing along and dance to Train's Hey Soul sister as our last song. Happy B'day to Chrissy and thanks for choosing Your Neighborhood DJ!

6-12-10 Joan and Tom's 25th wedding anniversary

All,

This party brought me to the clubhouse of Evergreen, an adult community located in Hamilton NJ. I pulled up to the venue and was pleasantly surprised by a pretty straight forward and easy load in. Once loaded in and ready to go I set the stage with a little jazz. The couple are devout Christians so my sets included a healthy dose of praise and worship tunes courtesy of the WOW disc series. The rest of the music fare consisted of some classic rock, 80's, and a few pop faves to keep it interesting. I received numerous compliments on the song selection even though my dance floor never really materialized. Happy anniversary to Joan and Tom and congratulations on 25 years of marriage!

5-30-10 Christopher's confirmation

All,

This was a laid back affair with a mix of adult and grade school kids to celebrate this confirmation / baptism. I kept the music mostly top 40 as I wanted to keep good energy for this Sunday afternoon soiree. The highlight of the afternoon was a "who can do the best soljha boy dance contest"! I had to entice the kids with a good ol' fashioned bribe but it was all in good fun. I offered up five bucks to no takers then the parents offered up some more bucks eventually bringing the pot up to 20 bucks for the dance off. This got the kids going and led to an enthusiastic climax to which our 4 finalist tied to score 5 bucks a piece. Although it wasn't a rocking dance party it was about what I expected for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

5-29-10 Marjorie's College Grad Party

So Saturday Brought me to Elizabeth to enjoy an evening of dancing and joy celebrating Marjorie's big accomplishment. I arrived on the scene about 1.5 hrs ahead of schedule to begin my setup. Once setup I got some tunes ready as the guests arrived. the Mom Zenaida provided me with a play list consisting of numerous Latin songs and a few Haitian selections as Marjorie's father is Hatian and her Mom is Colombian. The evening was alot of fun as the family and friends truly came to celebrate our grads accomplishment. they danced for most of the night and gave me big props on the selection and music mix. Thanks again to the Quiones family for choosing Your Neighboorhood DJ!

So Tuesday's event was even cooler than last year. DJ Jagged and I had the pleasure of working with Egils of Eggsotic events for this year's beach themed corporate event @ The Blooomberg corp campus this year. As I arrived and was screened by numerous guards before I finally got to the party location. It was decked out with a full home made boardwalk equipped with boardwalk style games and food stations serving fresh fragrant seafood delicacies. Once again I was entertaining in the cafeteria which was transformed into a beach buffet. the decorations gave a great feel of actually being transported to the beach as Egils does a fantastic job every year! After getting situated I helped Jagged get his gear setup outside. Upon finishing I got the tunes fired up keeping with the laid back beach paradise theme. The mood was set with songs like: Sweet Escape- Gwen Stefani
Two Tickets to Paradise- Eddie Money
Margaritaville- Jimmy Buffet
Paradise- Sade
Kokomo- Beach Boys
Paradise City- Guns n Roses

Once wrapping up the buffet our guests were corralled upstairs for their annual awards ceremony. The awards area was also decked out in a beach theme and set the mood for the guests. Our awards hosts were in rare form and kept the ceremony fun and upbeat with their wit and humor. Once finishing up the guest were back downstairs and outside under a huge tent where Jagged was set up and keeping the atmosphere with some beach inspired tunes. The crowd flooded the food stations and let it all hang loose in the extraordinary space. The crowd didn't cut a rug like they did last year, but overall I think a good time was had by all. Thanks once again to Jagged for bringing me in on this event, and thanks Eggsotic and Bloomberg for allowing Ambient DJ to be part of such a cool event!

Talia's Sweet 16 5-22-10

All,

So this Saturday brought me to a private residence in the town of Colt's Neck NJ. Once arriving at the huge home I was met at the door by Allen the sweet 16's dad. He showed me around the huge home and my table was directly in the foyer to the left. I began my setup which entailed my regular rig with the addition of 4 up lights. I set the lights up first strategically placing them underneath a white drape decorating part of the space. The look with the blue led lights was killer and really set the mood for the evening. The theme was mardi gras and the guests came donning their masks and such. The guests arrived promptly at 7 and I kept it mellow with some newer R&B then kept a party vibe with a little uptempo dance hall reggae. After the dinner was served the birthday girl requested Break Your Heart by - Taio Cruz ! I obliged and was a bit relieved as i had no idea on her musical preference until that song request. I blasted off with my top 40 hits and sprinkled in some club hits and techno. The group pounded the floor for the bulk of the evening. I hit a rough patch early in the night and had my dance floor part like the Red Sea. I opted to take the tempo down and play some hip hop and try to entice the crowd with a slower tempo. I played a few hot hip hop jams to a dead floor! this lasted for about 20 minutes which made me a bit nervous then just made me angry. I hate dead dance floors I played a few classic r and b jams which got the few adults in tow out on the floor but after a few songs they dispersed as well. Another short time drug by with the dead floor I stopped the music and grabbed the mic! I said " Wow this floor looks awful, their might as well be tumbleweeds blowing through here it's so dead! so here's what I'm gonna do until I get somebody on this floor I'm gonna play the most ridiculous stuff I can find"! I then proceeded to play Speedo by the Cadillacs a 50's jam! I was gonna play a few more tracks as I refused to waste any more hits on a dead floor then a few girls came swinging out to the floor. I cut the jam off and said " alright I'm gonna try this again"! dropped Bad Romance by lady Gaga and got my floor back, after that snafu we partied hard for the remainder of the evening! I ended the night once again with My girl by the Temptations to a singing crowd closing the night off right. Upon conclusion of the night I got major props from the entire family and even passed a dozen or so cards out as a testament to the fun time we had. songs of the night were:

Shots- LMFAO
We Like to party- Vengaboys
Love is gone- David Guetta fe Chris Willis
Break Your Heart- Taio Cruz
OMG- Usher
Boom Boom Pow- BEP
I Gotta Feeling- BEP
Baby- Justin Beiber
Evacuate The Dancefloor- Cascada
Low- Flo Rida
Thanks again to the wells family and Happy sweet 16 Talia, I'm so happy that your big day turned out to be so much fun!

Grice 8th grade social 5-21-10

Friday's event was a rockin' good time! I had the pleasure of Djiing an 8th grade social for Grice middle school @ the Colonial firehouse in Hamilton NJ. I arrived at the location about 4:30 and began the load in, it was a smooth and easy load using my cart over the massive tiled floor. I got it all loaded in and got my setup going in about 45 minutes. I used a secondary table as a request table and placed it far enough away to keep a buffer between myself and the table. Having done dozens of middle school events I know that numerous requests will be offered and this age group is typically impatient and will request you to death. The request table eliminates the interference and makes life so much easier as you can field the requests at your leisure without the scrutiny of the students. The students poured in around 6:30 and were dressed to the nines, guys in their suits girls in their lovely summer dresses. The noise level went from zero to loud as soon as the door swung open. They ate dinner rather quickly and I played lightly in the background. I had a few props IE: cool visor shades, glow bracelets, leis, mardi gras beads etc.. I placed the first box at the request table following dinner time the students came in droves and attacked the box! A few of the chaperone's saw the melee and quickly tried to gain control over the zealous youngsters. Once dancing time began we partied and partied hard to the latest top 40 jams. It was pretty high energy all night with a few strategic slow songs sprinkled in for good measure. The chaperone's roved the dancefloor with flashlights in tow to try and keep the grinding to a minimum. To spite their best efforts the grinding was going down, funny thing is it was mostly girls grinding each other. The night was a huge success and the staff and students had a fantastic time. I closed the night with My girl by the Temptations and had the crowd young and old singing to this feel good classic. All in all it was a great night I passed a few cards to the facility and was thanked by the faculty and banquet hall graciously!

Wang Wedding 5-15-10

All,

So last Saturday took me way upstate NY to Stony Point NY, The Patriot Hills Golf Club to be exact. This spot was a good 2hrs from my doorstep, speeding I made it in 1:45 but it was still a hike. I arose @ 6 am to get out the door by 7 am seeing how this was a hike and unfamiliar territory, I decided to err on the side of caution and get there with enough of a buffer should any B.S. arise. I arrived at the place about 8:45 or so and pulled up to the clubhouse / bar for the course. The bartender gave me some instructions and I went to check out the room. It was a nice space the room flanked the patio where the ceremony was to be held. I walked around a while before plotting my load in. I managed to find a staffer who directed me to the garbage juice load in which entailed a nice stretch of sidewalk, to the loading dock area, to an elevator, to the garbage juice, through the kitchen ,and finally into the room. After my first trip up I noticed there was another button to the first floor, actually it was an accident the elevator had a button that said 1 and then one that said 1R the latter was garbage juice the former was an entrance through the cocktail room. Relieved to my good fortune garbage juice was avoided. I got all the gear up in 4 loads and began my setup, my best bet was to set up the Bose for the ceremony then break it down and pull a switcheroo while the cocktail hr was going. I set up the mini Mackie for the cocktail and used some adapters for the CD player I had. despite my best efforts I couldn't get this rig to work, I ended up asking the waitress could they play my cocktail disc on the house system. They were cool and obliged my request. I finally got the ceremony music up as guests arrived, had a slight problem with the mic stand as the adapter for the stand and mic clip seems to have disappeared, after some head scratching I pulled a Mcgyver and broke out the duct tape. glad I had the black tape as it was unnoticeable to the naked eye. I got everything going as the guests poured in, I briefly went over the events with the preacher and off we went. The ceremony was a bit windy but overall went off without a hitch. The Bride (Gloria) was stunning in her gown and (Hank) the groom was dapper in his formal black. Once the couple said their I Do's we moved onto the cocktail hr. After the cocktail we moved into the intros which was fairly easy, no huge bridal party or tricky names. The afternoon flowed smoothly form the special dances, toasts, and dinner. Once we wrapped up dinner we started off the dancing with a conga line led my the B&G. We did a few line dances and kept the floor going with some top 40 hits and a bit of techno. To my surprise we had a rather lively dance floor for this afternoon soiree and the B&G stayed on the floor for most of the day. I received some very nice compliments at the conclusion and even scored a 50 spot from our newly weds. I was harried out of the place by the roadies for the wedding following ours. all in all it was a nice affair and flowed rather smoothly, congrats to the new Mr and Mrs. Wang best wishes from your neighborhood DJ!

Steever Wedding 5-8-10

All,

Saturday brought me to the newly renovated Angeloni's Cedar Gardens banquet facility on rt 33 in Hamilton NJ. It's not often I get to work with my DJ brethren, but it's always nice to work with my buds. DJ Jagged and myself arrived approximately an 1:15 hrs ahead of our start time for the load in and set up for Brad and Megan's wedding celebration. This couple was very cool, easy to work with and just overall nice people looking for a great reception. Upon load in we were impressed by the swanky decor and seemingly new attitude the banquet hall now boasts. The ceiling was nicely up lit to the wedding colors and fine fixtures and amenities abound in the renovated space. We were set up in the middle of the marble floor dance space, the room was long and rectangular which was a bit odd but still very elegant. We got the rig up and going in about 30 minutes the odds and ends took a few more minutes, but presentation is half the battle. We also had to set up the 90in screen and projector for zap photos to be taken throughout the evening. Once settled in and up and running, we went over the intros and game plan. I was donning my MC hat and took the lead in getting the bridal party together and prepping them for the agenda and flow of events. Once the cocktail portion had passed The banquet coordinator gathered the bridal party for the intros as I welcomed the guests. The intros went flawlessly with Jagged manning the decks. We moved from the grand entrance to first dance, parent dances, prayer (I gave the prayer), toasts and dinner. Once the bulk of the formalities were done we settled into mellow dinner music and prepared for the dance floor action we had planned for this reception. Once dinner was over we got the dance floor going taking turns at the decks and hyping the crowd when necessary. It was a bit tough maintaining the dance floor for any extended length of time but we did a nice job of covering all the bases and playing to the crowd. We did the usual wedding formals including cake, bouquet, garter etc.. We were able to field numerous request and covered the couples play list with ease. Upon conclusion of the event we handed out numerous business cards and were thanked by many family members, guests, and the bride and groom. It's always a bonus to be genuinely appreciated for the work we do, it truly makes this job worthwhile. Congrats to the new Mr and Mrs. Brad Steever and thank you for allowing us to take part in your special day!

April 24th Karen's Sweet 16

Saturday turned out to be a blast with a small but lively group of sweet 16 party goers. This event was held @ the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company hall. The hall is really the bays where they keep the trucks, what they do is pull the trucks out and put some tables and chairs in place of the trucks. This party was a fun time, check out the video log posted below for an inside look into this slammin good time!

April 23rd Melissa's Sweet 16

Friday's sweet 16 brought me to South Plainfield NJ which was cool considering I lived in South Plainfield a few years ago. I left home a bit earlier than usual for this gig considering having to battle rush hour traffic on 287, but surprisingly I flowed through it pretty easily. I arrived 2 the Italian American club where the sweet 16 was being hosted approx 1:15 hr early for load in and set up. the load in was a breeze and I was greeted by Liz the birthday girl's mom. I got my rig all up with much time to spare and tossed on a disc and let it play. Once 7 rolled around I kept it pretty low key with track s by : Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Nickle back etc.. I rode the dinner music until after the buffet was served, we dined on fine Italian delicacies and i indulged in a plate of ziti, sausage and peppers and lasagna (delicious)!! Once filled to the max I began to get the dance music flowing the mood was somewhat somber so I tried to hype the kids up with some mic action. I was met with a Luke warm reaction and a dismal dance floor. As the night drug on I played the hits to a on again off again dance floor that frustrated me to the bone. This sweet 16 didn't have a candle lighting or but we did do a cake and the happy birthday song. I'm thinking these kids may of just had a long day and didn't really come to party, but either way I was thanked numerous time @ the end of the night. A few business cards got passed out and despite my feelings I still managed a nice tip! Thanks to the Pasternak family and happy birthday Mellisa!

Note: In my haste to leave the house I left my camera home and was unable to document this party with my normal footage (Drats)!!!

April 17th Rounsaville Wedding

April 17th Ron and Peggy's Wedding

Saturday took me to the quaint town of Lambertville. I've done some work for the public school system in the past hosting various school dances over the last few years, so I am somewhat familiar with the area. The couple Ron and Peggy have eclectic taste in music! Ron is a heavy metal guy and Peggy Leans more toward pop, classic rock, and power ballads. The couple wanted something simple to compliment their easy going nature, so I knew I was in for a nice mellow affair. The reception was contracted to start at 4 so I arrived at 2:30 to begin the load in and set up. The affair was held at the Lambertville Rescue Squad's banquet facility on Alexander road, perched on top of a steep hill. The load in was easy and I was finishing my set up when the guests started to arrive approximately 3:15 or so. Although contracted to play at 4 I ran a CD for the early comers to set the mood. I changed into my suit and let the hits roll. After a while of cocktail music the bridal party was ready to get it started. I lined them up outside the room and quickly rehearsed the entrance to get us all on the same page. I cued the music after getting the crowd's attention and began the intros. The intros rolled smoothly as the bridal party strolled in to I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas " a popular choice these days"! Then lowering the music I announced our new Mr and Mrs and slammed the music back up to a nice applause. Once traveling underneath the bridal party arch, we moved into their first dance in which everyone joined in midway enhancing the mood of the day. We moved on to the parent dances, blessing, and speeches. The night flowed effortlessly with light dance floor action to the uptempo disco, 80's ,and dance sets. I received good floor action from the slow songs which considering most of the guests were older should've been expected. The bouquet and garter portion of the evening were pretty tame with boyfriend and girlfriend participants not getting to frisky, and the cake cutting was nice not naughty! Overall the evening was well received and I handed out a few cards and drew many compliments on the song selection. Once again congratulations to Mr and Mrs. Rounsaville! I hope you have a great time on your Jamaican excursion!

March 13th Nia's Sweet 16

Ok so to intro this one a little background is in order. Nia is my wife's cousin and obviously mine too now. I've had the duty and pleasure to DJ most of my family's special events and looked forward to providing the tunes for such a special day.So Saturday morning I ran around to get my suit from the cleaners, gear from storage, brother from my mom's, sister's from my mother in laws etc.. This was all before we even could leave BTW this was the first day of the massive rain and flooding that has been plaguing the north east as of late. the car was jammed packed with my sisters, brother and a family friend as well as all my DJ gear in the back. We loaded up and prepared for the 2 hr trip to Delaware. We battled the rain the entire time which seemed to get worse the closer we got to Delaware. Once arriving we met my aunt, uncle and cousins at the church hall were the party was being held. I loaded in my gear as the family helped get the room ready for the party ie: getting tables and chairs, food prep, decorations etc... The party started slowly as the sweet 16 court took forever to get it together. Once the court was introduced we rolled on with the formal activities including : worship dancers, scripture readings, Daddy daughter dance, shoe ceremony etc.. After we finished with that the buffet style dinner was served. I played some uptempo Jazz and other dinner appropriate music to keep the mood mellow but not boring. Once dinner was through we partied to:

Cupid Shuffle- Cupid
Cha Cha Slide- Mr C
Ride Dat Wave- Dj Frosty
Wanna Be Starting Something- MJ
Watcha Say- Jason Derulo
God In Me- Mary Mary
This is it - Kirk Franklin
Apache- Sugar Hill gang

I got a great response from the fresh prince of Bel Air theme song which I dropped after Sugar Hill gang's Apache noting the famous dance routine Will and Carlton did to the song on the popular TV show. Overall the night was a great success and I am so happy to know I had a part in it. Congrats to my beautiful cousin Nia on her journey to young womanhood, and thanks Uncle Winslow and Auntie Darlene for your love, and continued support! Love Y'all

March 7th CYO tournament of Champions

Sunday was a day of sportsmanship and great ball. I was lucky enough to host the music entertainment for the mercer county CYO tournament of champions courtesy of Master Dj's. I arrived about an hr early to setup but only need about a half hr for this very easy gig. The Gym was a fair size, located in Trenton Nj the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) of Mercer county hosted winners from catholic schools throughout the state in : Boys/ Girls JV and Boys/ Girls Varsity league basketball. the banners from all the different schools hung from the rafters of the gym. Etched on the wall was a slogan emphasizing the importance of good sportsmanship, which I felt was very thoughtful. I announced the teams and the rosters before each game, and played music during time outs and half time. the Bose system rocked the gym very well for a system it's size, and even sounded a bit boomy in the cavernous gym. The games went off flawlessly and I got to watch some rising stars in the making. Thanks to MDJ entertainment and the Mercer County CYO for allowing me to be a part of such a cool event!

March 6th Princeton Supper Club Party

This was my first time djiing a party at one of Princeton U's supper clubs (Frat House)! I was anticipating this one highly because I love the energy that college crowds bring to the party, It's like a typical club crowd but in a smaller setting. I arrived a bit early and was pleasantly surprised by the easy load in. Partially through my load in Dj Jagged arrived, he pulled a few toys out of his car ie: uplights, and a revo 3. we positioned the lights and had the room looking killer for this crowd. The night started slowly with a crowd that showed up but disappeared into a back room. The guest kept arriving and kept going into the back room. I was asked to lower my music as they were giving some kind of speeches in the back room, I obliged. About 15 minutes after being asked to turn down the doors to the back room swung open and a energetic dance crowd packed the floor. I had mostly been playing filler for the 2.5 hrs I had been there but once the crowd materialized we jammed hard. Hits of the night were:
Jai Ho- Slumdog millionaire
Bad romance- Lady Gaga
Hotel room- Pitbull
Boom boom pow- BEP
Put your bass up- Razor n Guido

Overall we only partied for about 1.5 hrs, but I packed a nights worth of hits into that time frame leaving them begging for more. we got a rave review from the organizer (Adam) and look forward to a return visit to our friends in Princeton!

Feb 27th Tyshawn, Tiarra, and Michael's Sweet 16

This party was a ton of fun. The party was held at the community center in Twin Rivers NJ, practically in my backyard. The load in was easy and I was set up with time to spare. I got some beats on and played it by ear as the teen guest arrived fashionably late. The party was scheduled from 7 to 12 but the majority of the guest arrived about 8:30. I started off the night with some older hip hop, and reggae jams to fill in some time, but once the grand entrance of our birthday troupe was announced it was go in time!! The group mostly wanted Brick City House ie: Ride That Wave, Swing Dat, Beat Dat, Hit it to the beat etc.. I like the Brick City stuff , but after about 15 minutes I'm over it. This group really stretched my Brick City Crate as I rolled out about 2 hrs of tracks throughout the night. Between the Brick City Club I rolled out some new joints by Nicki Minaj, Young Money, Usher, and Ludacris. We jammed and Jammed hard to all the best hip hop joints you can think of. Once it was time to cut the cake I blasted off Happy Birthday by Stevie Wonder and then we got back into the groove. The kids were freak dancing all night, the type that makes any parent blush. I was surprised at how far the freaking was going but teens are teens. I had to caution a few table dancers as the table and chairs they were using were just a bit to close to the expensive speaker system. Overall it was a very fun and exciting evening. I had a blast and from the looks of the dance floor all night I'd say the guests did as well. Happy birthday to Tyshawn, Tiarra and Michael and thanks to Relatainment for booking me out on this one!

Feb 20th Tyler's 1st Birthday Party

I really don't do many kids parties these days, focusing more on weddings, sweet 16, graduations etc.. but every now and then it's nice to stretch yourself and get out of you're comfort zone a bit. Tyler is the son of a co worker of mine (Tom). Tom asked me to do the gig and I accepted graciously. due to the nature of kids parties I knew I had to have some fun games, prizes, and kid friendly song choices. The gig was held at the Griggstown firehouse and had a rather awful upstairs load in. Once loaded in I quickly got set up and fired up some tunes. the kids were kicking around some blow up balls that the parents had brought in. the afternoon played out like I thought it would, kids mostly on the dance floor with sporadic parent involvement. The kids really enjoyed a seemingly never ending game of musical chairs, and a game of mummy wrap we played later. In between the games we jammed to black eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, Mylie Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Justin Beiber and other tween favs. The afternoon was pleasant and Tyler got a ton of nice gifts from all the friends and family that came. Overall the party was a success and I had a nice time. I'd like to thank the Harkness family for trusting me with Tyler's B'day, and I am happy that all had a great time!!

Feb 13th 2010 Selua's Birthday Party

Saturday's Birthday party brought me to the city of brotherly love. It was a cold night for this birthday celebration making the arduous load in even more difficult. The party was held at a closed restaurant owned by the birthday girl's family. I was upstairs in what looked to be a small lounge with a bar by the steps ,and a small dance floor. The birthday girl wanted a mix of freestyle, old school hip hop, salsa, meringue, and some newer hip hop jams. The first people to arrive were family consisting of a few kids, teens, and 30 something family members. I played a little Latin and a few requests IE: cha cha slide, Mylie Cyrus etc.. After about an hour of playing mostly kiddie fluff, the birthday girl walked in. She wanted me to change the vibe to stay in line with her play list, I obliged. I played a long freestyle style set to a luke warm reaction. Once we realized this approach wasn't cutting it, the birthday girl cut me lose to do my thing. I got the crowd going with a little Mike Jackson, Rob Base, Salt N Peppa etc.. I rocked out a nice salsa set and the birthday girl and crew showed their best moves on the floor. Tito a party guest broke out his drums and played along to the salsa/ meringue grooves, really adding to the vibe!! Near the conclusion of the contract they passed the hat around and got me for an hour of OT! In the end the party was a ton of fun , but I definitely was exposed on my slim meringue collection. Once again Happy Birthday Seli, and thank you for choosing Your Neighborhood DJ!

Gig Log 1-23-10 (Marcus's 13 Birthday Party)

Yesterday's party was a great success and a ton of fun. The party was held @ The Knights of Columbus in Hamilton NJ. The hall has been recently redone and has a nice layout, and a huge dance floor. The Party started @ 6 pm, but the birthday boy arrived @ approximately 7:30 pm (Fashionably late). Once our party celebrant arrived he entered the room to a special intro his Dad and I came up with. We hyped up the crowd to the horn intro of Earth, Wind, and fire's (In The Stone) and as the doors opened the birthday boy strolled in to Chris Brown's (Transform Ya)!! The guests went wild and the dance floor began to come alive with his teen and tween friends and family. We partied for about a half an hour before the buffet style dinner was served, I kept it upbeat during dinner time with jams by artists like: Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Kid Cudi, Keisha Cole, and Sean Paul. After dinner I got the party started with teen dance favs such as: You're a Jerk (New boyz), Stanky Legg (G Spot Boyz), and Bedrock (Young Money). The vibe was skewed more toward the youth in attendance with scattered adult participation in such line dances as the Cupid shuffle, Cha cha slide and a soul train line to Marvin Gaye's Got to give it up pt2. This group was a blast and the 4 hr party seemed to go by in a whirl. Once again happy birthday Marcus and thanks to the Mckinnon family for choosing Your Neighborhood DJ.

Gig Log's 1-15-10 / 1-16-10

What's up guys? just thought I'd post a log from my events this weekend, so here it goes.

1-15-10 West Windsor Plainsboro South

This was my first time @ West Windsor Plainsboro High South so I was excited to finally crack this school which is practically in my backyard. I arrived approx 7 pm for the 8 pm start time, it was only a 3 hr gig so I pretty much could stick to the hits and not have to play too much fluff. I got set up by 7:45 and got some jams playing, by 8:15 the crowd thickened and it was time to get it started. I took it up tempo but was met with a luke warm reaction, that's when i broke out boom boom pow and the dance floor came to life. A circle formed and a few kids were break dancing in the center, one kid was great and was doing some flares and different moves to the hyped crowd. Then it happened a kid cracked the circle did a few moves then was on the floor screaming. I thought he might of been joking at first, but it seemed a little too real. I shut off the tunes and asked are you joking, he said no and screamed like I've never heard a man scream! I announced the need for some medical attention on the dance floor. Chaperone's and faculty rushed to the floor to aid, the shrieks continued but were almost drowned out by the loudness of 300 kids in a big space. EM T's arrived about 15 minutes after the kid went down, would you believe this kid broke his shin break dancing @ the school dance!! EM T's carried the kid out on a stretcher to which I instructed the students to give them a round of applause for helping us with the situation. Once they hauled out our fallen soldier, we partied and partied hard!! Aside from the numerous requests for you're a jerk (5) the kids were pretty tame. I dropped Hotel room and was cautioned by the faculty to get it off (lol)!! I also was asked numerous times to turn it up but I was already peaking the meters and definitely felt underpowered for the bass hungry teens.Jams of the night were:

Boom boom Pow ( Not because the kid broke his leg, I played this later on and got a great response)!

Shots

You're a Jerk (Played this 5 times, I could've understood if any of these kids were good at Jerkin but they all were sub par)!

1-16-10 Dakota's Sweet 16

This gig was held in Princeton in a subdivision off of Forestal Center. the club house was very nice with fine fixtures and amenities, perfect for a gathering like this. This gig was booked by Harry who I had the pleasure of djiing his daughter's sweet 16 almost 2 yrs ago now. Dakota is actually Harry's girlfriend's daughter, but either way just glad people keep us in mind for their special events. I was setup in a room next to a piano which had a lovely fireplace on one end and french doors that opened into a bar area where dinner was served.I started off about a half hr early and let a promo only disc run while i got mentally prepared for the nights festivities. The crowd gathered in the bar about 7 and by 7:30 the room was packed with teens. The kids trickled into my space so I thought time to get it started. The room came alive with teen energy dancing to the grooves. We partied for about 30 minutes and then moved into the candle lighting ceremony. The ceremony went flawlessly and then it was dinner time, while the group ate I played a few reggae jams, and a little Motown. I noticed a trickle back into my room so I broke out Sweet Caroline which flocked the masses to the dance floor, they came from everywhere to enjoy this singalong classic. I broke into an 70's/80's set that lit up the dance floor with guests young and old and brought great energy into the room. The few adults soon fizzed and then we got into the more current stuff. My dance floor was packed all night, which makes you appreciate kids that just love to have fun without all the pretense that kids have around this age. This group was an absolute blast that danced to everything from today's top 40, to Brown eyed girl. Songs of the night were:

Sweet Caroline

Man I feel like a woman

I gotta feeling

Gasolina

I'm in Miami Trick
-- @ the conclusion of the night I thanked everyone for coming out to Dakota's sweet 16 blah blah blah. Then the kids flocked to the piano right next to me ,one kid sat at the keys and played and sang an incredible piano cover of 21 guns. It seemed to end the night off perfectly I only wish I had gotten some video of it.
